Hands-On Practice Labs (Odoo 18 trial database)

13 hands-on Odoo 18 trial-database labs (pricelists, routes, costing, putaway, MRP, POS, accounting) that settle tricky certification questions.

Doing beats reading. Each lab takes 10–25 minutes and settles one or more disputed exam answers (T-numbers refer to ).

Setup: go to odoo.com/trial (or runbot.odoo.com → 18.0 → "Connect"), install Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Accounting, Project, Timesheets, POS, Website/eCommerce, and keep the demo data. Turn on developer mode (Settings > bottom > Activate developer mode).

Lab 1 · Pricelists end-to-end (Sales/eCommerce) · T3

  1. Sales > Settings > Pricelists = on.
  2. Create pricelist "Retail .90": rule All products, Formula, based on Sales Price, discount 10 %, round off 1.00, extra fee −0.10. Check a $45 product: 45 × 0.9 = 40.50 → rounded to 41.00 → −0.10 = $40.90.
  3. Create "Wholesale" with discount −10 % → prices go up 10 %.
  4. Quotation: set a customer on Retail, add a line, then switch the pricelist → the price does not change until you click Update Prices.
  5. Website: assign country groups to two pricelists, reorder them, then visit /shop in a private window (T3).

Lab 2 · Routes and replenishment (Sales/Purchase/Inventory) · T4, T5

  1. Product "Lab Chair" (Goods, Track Inventory). Purchase tab: add vendor lines exactly as in T4 (Azure 20 @ 450, Azure 10 @ 470, Camille 1 @ 420, Azure 1 @ 500).
  2. Inventory tab: route Buy only. Reordering rule min 5, max 15. Update on-hand to 4.
  3. Inventory > Operations > Replenishment > Order Once → check which vendor/price the RFQ gets (expect Azure 470, qty 11).
  4. Inventory settings > Security Lead Time for purchase = 5. Set vendor lead time 15. Re-run and compare the RFQ order deadline with the expected arrival (T5).
  5. Switch the route to Buy + Replenish on Order (MTO), confirm an SO → an RFQ is linked to the SO.

Lab 3 · Costing methods (Purchase/Inventory/Accounting)

  1. Product category "Lab AVCO": costing AVCO, valuation Automated.
  2. Receive 10 @ 50, then 10 @ 30 → cost = 40. Deliver 5 → cost stays 40.
  3. Change the category to Standard with cost 100, receive 2 @ 10 → cost stays 100.
  4. Accounting > Review > Inventory Valuation: look at the entries (in v19+ you'd run the closing entry here).

Lab 4 · Multi-step delivery & backorders (Inventory) · Bank Q23

  1. Inventory settings > Multi-Step Routes on; warehouse outgoing = Pick + Pack + Ship.
  2. SO: 10 chairs + 5 desks (have stock). Open the Pick: set 15 chairs and 2 desks done → Validate → No Backorder.
  3. Open the Pack step and write down the demand/quantities. That is the exam answer. Do the same with "Create Backorder" to see the difference.

Lab 5 · Putaway rules & storage categories (Inventory) · T6, Bank Q14

  1. Settings: Storage Locations, Multi-Step Routes, Storage Categories, Packages on.
  2. Storage category "Fruits" with capacity 100 units for product Strawberry. Locations Fridge 1 / Fridge 2 with that category.
  3. Put 77 in Fridge 1 and 90 in Fridge 2. Putaway rules WH/Stock → Fridge 1 / Fridge 2, sublocation "Last Used".
  4. Receive 30 → see where they go. Then receive 5 → see where they go.
  5. Recreate the Teakwood/Pallet rules from Bank Q14 and receive a pallet.

Lab 6 · Removal strategies (Inventory) · Bank Q9

  1. Create shelves A/B/C under WH/Stock with stock received on different dates (edit the move dates in debug or receive on different days).
  2. Product category removal strategy: FIFO → LIFO → Closest Location → FEFO (lots with expiry). Make a delivery each time and see which shelf is reserved.

Lab 7 · Manufacturing core (MRP) · T9, T10, T11

  1. Settings: Work Orders, By-Products, Work Order Dependencies, MPS, Subcontracting.
  2. BoM for a table: 4 legs + 1 top, operation "Assembly" 10 min at a work center with capacity 3. MO for 4 → expected duration 20 min.
  3. Open BoM > Overview: note availability and lead time per component (T9).
  4. Create 2 MOs for the same product/BoM → list > Action > Merge (T10). Try with different BoMs and see the error.
  5. Warehouse manufacturing = 2 steps. In Shop Floor, scrap a component → tick Replenish quantities → find the new Pick Components transfer (T11).
  6. Mark a WO done in Shop Floor and watch the card fade and the next WO appear.

Lab 8 · MPS (MRP)

  1. Planning > Master Production Schedule > add a product, safety stock 20.
  2. Enter forecasts; click Replenish; watch cell colours (green/orange/red).
  3. Show rows Actual Demand Y-1 / Y-2 and Indirect Demand.

Lab 9 · Project & Timesheets · T2, T15, T16

  1. Project settings: Milestones, Task Dependencies, Recurring Tasks, Timesheets.
  2. Quick-create a task: Yoga class @Marc #class 3h ! → check assignee, tag, allocated hours, priority.
  3. Tasks A and B, "B blocked by A". In Gantt, schedule B before A ends → see the red arrow.
  4. Set a task to Waiting → look at the blue segment in the stage bar.
  5. Milestone with 2 tasks; close both → watch the milestone (green/reached).
  6. Start a timer, stop it after 1 minute → 15:00 logged.
  7. Service product "Consulting 10h", Prepaid, Task in new project, upsell at 80 % → sell 10 h, log 8 h → an upsell activity appears.

Lab 10 · Accounting essentials · T12, T13, T14

  1. Invoice with 2 lines, same account, 15 % tax → open Journal Items: 4 lines.
  2. Fiscal position "EU B2B" with Detect Automatically, country group Europe, VAT required → create a Belgian customer and invoice them.
  3. Settings > Lock Dates: set Tax Return Lock Date to last month; post a bill dated in that month → see the accounting date move (T13).
  4. Settings > Invoicing Switch Threshold: note its help text (T12).
  5. Multi-company: open an account > see the Companies field (T14).
  6. Asset: create a model, Declining, factor; then try a negative factor (progressive).
  7. Follow-up: Accounting > Customers > Follow-up Reports → exclude one invoice.

Lab 11 · POS (restaurant) · T19

  1. Install POS Restaurant; open the Bar/Restaurant session.
  2. Create a combo (Burger menu) with choices including a variant product.
  3. Open a table, order, transfer the order to another table, split the bill, pay part to customer account (need a customer with credit).
  4. POS settings: QR code menu / self ordering, Table booking → see that it opens Appointments.

Lab 12 · Studio

  1. Studio on Sales order form: add a Many2one field, set Tooltip and Placeholder, and compare them.
  2. Add an approval rule to the Confirm button (group Sales/Administrator); try confirming as a normal user.
  3. Studio > Reports > edit the invoice footer → see it changes all reports (company layout).
  4. Try opening Studio on a wizard (e.g., Register Payment) → not possible.

Lab 13 · Spreadsheet & Knowledge

  1. Sales > Reporting > pivot > Insert in Spreadsheet; add new SO lines and refresh → the dynamic pivot updates.
  2. Data > Trim whitespace; Share → frozen read-only link.
  3. Knowledge: create article → sub-article (check members), Lock it, embed a CRM view, send to Trash and restore it.
